About Us
Smyrna Church of Christ
exists to:
- Share the Gospel with the lost
- Lead the saved to a deeper understanding of God's Word
- Serve others within the church and within the community
- Love one another as Christ loves us
We want to be just Christians—no more, no less. The confusion in our world today in the area of "Christianity" is terrible. One group says "do this", another says "do that". But we say "do what the Bible says"—just come out of the confusion and be a "Christian only".
THE NAME OF THIS CHURCH, "Church of Christ", means "belonging to Christ", a name acceptable to all, not divisive or sectarian. It is used in the name because the congregation has no denominational affiliation and desires to be known simply as a church belonging to Christ. The church is a non-profit corporation, tax exempt, self-governing and not subject to any other religious organization.
THE BIBLE, accepted as the inspired message of God, is the basis for faith and practice. If the Bible is clear on any matter, the congregation seeks to abide by it. It the Bible is silent or not clear, one is free to have one's own opinion.
Ordinances Observed
THE LORD'S SUPPER (Communion) is offered every Sunday in keeping with the example given in Acts 20:7 and the practice of the church for many years as noted by church historians. Anyone may partake but worshippers are urged to keep in mind the message of the communion and not to partake insincerely.
THE BAPTISM (Immersion) to accept Jesus Christ as Lord is practiced as it was in the New Testament times (Acts 8:38, 39; Colossians 2:12; Romans 6:3, 4). The Bible relates the acts to the Forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38, 22:16), Coming into Christ (Galatians 3:27) and to Salvation (Mark 16:15, 16; I Peter 3:21).
ONE BECOMES A MEMBER by confessing faith in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, accepting Him as the Lord of one's life by being scripturally baptized; or by acknowledging that one has already done this.
